What would it take to live the dream?

About Us

The Eller Family

We consider ourselves pretty lucky to live on the Old Fort Bayou off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath Ranch style home, circa 1980. We love kayaking, boating, sailing and just playing in the water. Currently we have a 23 ft Donzi that gets us out to the beautiful barrier islands, and an 18 ft Hobie catamaran.

We can kayak from our pier.

We see some awesome sunsets from our porch.

Our dream is to buy a seaworthy sail boat (large enough for a family of 3 to live aboard), take off for at least one year, and go sailing in the Caribbean. We aren’t wealthy, so we have to do all of this on a budget. We don’t want to sell our house because we really love living on the bayou and we want the comfort of knowing we can come “home” whenever we want.

We may not be rich, but we are determined to make our dream a reality! Here’s a little more about our backgrounds.

Alex grew up near Baltimore, Maryland, where he spent summers playing and sailing on the Magothy River. His family (4 sisters, 1 brother) sailed a 27 ft. Catalina. He became a Hobie Cat aficionado as a teen. Alex still loves to sail his Hobie and makes the Friday night races at the local Yacht club whenever he can. Alex is a software engineer and leader of a start-up group in Jackson and Biloxi. Alex loves fishing, music and trying new craft beers.

Sharon grew up in Mississippi and spent most of her youth playing softball and riding horses. She has been a Landlubber for most of her life, but she loves living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is learning the basics of sailing. She has two grown sons, Mason and Hunter, who grew up playing in the Mississippi woods. Together with Alex, she has little Max, age 7,  who is growing up playing in the Mississippi Gulf.  Sharon is a licensed massage therapist, a licensed insurance agent and a psychology student at USM.  She loves to play old time fiddle tunes, practice Yoga and play with her pugs, Ernie and Roxy.
